The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its fight against illicit drug trafficking, with arrests made across Abia, Rivers and Delta states.
Among those arrested are a 60-year-old woman, Chidimma Sunday, and a 28-year-old man, Abubakar Usman, both persons living with disabilities, for their alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
In Abia State, Chidimma Sunday was apprehended by members of the Umuosu Vigilante Group in Umuna Autonomous Community, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, after she was found with 1.8 kilograms of skunk. She was later handed over to NDLEA operatives on June 10 for further investigation.
In Rivers State, NDLEA officers arrested Abubakar Usman during a raid at Rumuokoro in Port Harcourt. Recovered from him were 400 grams of skunk, 5 grams of methamphetamine, 100 grams of tramadol, 5 grams of swinol and 18 grams of diazepam.
Meanwhile, in Delta State, NDLEA operatives uncovered a clever drug concealment operation after arresting 36-year-old Onya Jude at Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area. The suspect was allegedly found with five gas cylinders used to hide 2.8 kilograms of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis.
The agency says investigations are ongoing as it intensifies efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country.
While commending the officers, men and women of MMIA, Abia, Rivers, Kano, Kwara, Delta, Gombe, Lagos, and FCT Commands for the arrests and seizures, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) noted their drug supply reduction efforts balanced with WADA sensitization activities while he charged them and their compatriots across the country to continue to surpass their previous records.
