The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a major breakthrough in its nationwide war against illicit drugs, with operatives uncovering a massive cannabis warehouse in Taraba State and recovering more than 1.1 tonnes of the substance.
The agency in a statement signed by the Director , Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi said while acting on credible intelligence, the NDLEA officers on June 13 raided the warehouse of a suspected notorious drug dealer, Ali Adamu, in Maihula Village, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
During the operation, operatives recovered 63 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa weighing a staggering 1,121.5 kilograms.
The seizure ranks among the largest drug busts recorded by the agency this year and is seen as a significant blow to drug trafficking activities in the North-East region.
The Taraba operation was part of a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations carried out across the country, resulting in multiple arrests and the recovery of large quantities of illicit substances.
In the Federal Capital Territory, NDLEA operatives arrested a 46-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Nnadi, along the Gwagwalada Expressway.
Recovered from him were 30,400 pills of tramadol, 750 capsules of pregabalin, 200 pills of molly and 592 bottles of codeine-based syrup.
Consequently, In Lagos State, NDLEA operatives intercepted another major shipment of drugs, recovering 1,102 kilograms of “Ghana Loud,” a highly potent strain of cannabis, around the Alaba International Market in Ojo.
The agency also arrested two suspected drug traffickers, Jamilu Idris, popularly known as Jama, and Aminu Abdullahi, also known as Momo, in the Kasuwan Katako area of Gombe State.
The suspects were found with large quantities of skunk weighing 2.738 kilograms.In Kano State, a 39-year-old suspect, Ngozi Gaius, was arrested along the Zaria-Kano Road while allegedly transporting 6,000 pills of tramadol.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Kwara State intercepted two suspects, Nasiru Hamza and Muhammad Sani, along the Bode Saadu Road.
The pair were allegedly transporting 600 compressed blocks of skunk weighing 304 kilograms in a Toyota jeep.
The latest operations underscore the NDLEA’s intensified efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across Nigeria and prevent dangerous substances from reaching communities.
However, the NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers and personnel for their recent arrests and drug seizures across the country.
He praised their combined efforts in reducing the supply of illicit substances while also sustaining public sensitisation activities under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
