The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an investigation into reports that a recent airstrike may have impacted a local market in Jilli, leading to possible civilian casualties.
According to a statement by the Director of public relations and information NAF Headquarters Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame , the incident, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, April 11, 2026, is being treated with utmost seriousness and empathy, as the protection of civilian lives remains a top priority.
The statement added that the Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke has ordered the immediate deployment of the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell (CHAI-Cell) to conduct an on-the-ground fact-finding mission.
NAF says it is committed to transparency, professionalism, and accountability, and will collaborate with relevant authorities and community leaders to establish the facts.
While investigations are ongoing, the Air Force has urged the public and media to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course.
Consequently, NAF has also reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding both national security and civilian lives, assuring that all concerns will be thoroughly addressed.
