The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has received two new 100MVA power transformers for installation at its ongoing 330/132/33kV transmission substation project in Katsina State.
In a statement on Tuesday, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the transformers were delivered to the company’s Kano Region on July 9 as part of its strategic grid expansion programme aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s transmission network.
According to the company, the transformers are critical to the completion of the Katsina transmission substation and will increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts (MW) when installed, tested and commissioned.
TCN said the project is expected to improve the reliability, flexibility and efficiency of electricity transmission while enhancing its ability to evacuate more bulk power to Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and neighbouring communities.
The company noted that the new substation forms part of several transmission infrastructure projects being implemented nationwide to expand, modernise and reinforce the national grid in response to Nigeria’s growing electricity demand.
TCN added that the project will help improve power supply across Katsina State and the wider North-West region upon completion and energisation.
