The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has commenced an investigation into a suspected chemical spill on the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway following the appearance of a mysterious white, foamy substance at the scene of a road accident.
A team from the Agency’s Kaduna State Field Office, led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Hena Dangari Emmanuel, visited the affected area to assess the situation and begin preliminary investigations.
During the visit, the team met with the Police Commander for Jere, ACP Sani Zubairu, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Commander for the area, and the community leader to gather information about the incident.
According to preliminary findings, the substance is believed to have spilled from a heavy-duty truck involved in an accident along the highway.
As part of its investigation, NESREA has collected samples of the white foamy substance, surrounding soil, and water from a nearby stream for laboratory analysis to determine the nature of the material and any potential environmental or public health risks.
The Agency has also obtained information from security agencies, local authorities, and residents to support its investigation.
While the cause and composition of the substance remain unknown, NESREA has urged members of the public to avoid contact with the foamy material, nearby water sources, and surrounding soil until laboratory results are available and the investigation is concluded.
The Agency said the precautionary measure is necessary to prevent possible exposure to hazardous substances and assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
