The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Oyo State Government are set to strengthen collaboration in aviation and security through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the operation and maintenance of the state’s newly acquired Diamond DA-42 aircraft.

The partnership was the focus of discussions when Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, visited the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

During the meeting, Governor Makinde commended the Nigerian Air Force for its support to Oyo State, particularly during the recent rescue operation involving abducted students in Oriire Local Government Area.

He said the Air Force’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) personnel worked tirelessly to provide critical intelligence and situational awareness that significantly aided the operation.

The governor added that the intelligence and operational insights provided by the Air Force would help shape Oyo State’s technology-driven security architecture and strengthen future security initiatives.

He also appreciated the NAF for accommodating the state’s aircraft and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in aviation operations and post-service housing projects for the benefit of both institutions.

In his response, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the proposed partnership as a reflection of the Nigerian Air Force’s professionalism, operational excellence and longstanding relationship with the people of Oyo State.

Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting the state government in areas of mutual interest, assuring Governor Makinde that the necessary framework would be put in place to facilitate a mutually beneficial collaboration.

He also commended the governor’s leadership and reiterated the NAF’s resolve to strengthen partnerships that enhance national security, promote innovation, improve personnel welfare and accelerate socio-economic development.
