Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State, arresting six suspects during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing economic sabotage.
The operation, led by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, followed credible intelligence on illegal oil bunkering activities in the area.
According to the a statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya , the raid resulted in the arrest of six suspected oil bunkerers and the recovery of four trucks, a pumping machine, as well as assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used for the illegal operation.
The suspects and all recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, praised their professionalism and urged them to sustain the offensive against illegal bunkering and other forms of economic sabotage within the Division’s area of responsibility.
However, the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts to protect the nation’s critical oil infrastructure and combat criminal activities that threaten Nigeria’s economy.
