Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, has officially concluded the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise nationwide, recording nearly 3.7 million new voters.
The commission says a total of 3,748,704 Nigerians successfully completed their registration between January and April 2026, showing strong public interest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to INEC, over 2.2 million applicants registered online, while about 1.4 million completed the process physically at designated centres across the country. However, the commission notes that the figures remain provisional, pending final verification.
With registration now closed for this phase, INEC is shifting focus to the next critical step verification of the voter register.
From April 29 to May 5, the voters’ register will be displayed nationwide for what is known as claims and objections. This process allows Nigerians to confirm their details and report any irregularities.
INEC is urging all newly registered voters to visit designated centres to check their information and help identify issues such as duplicate entries, names of deceased persons, or non-citizens on the register.
For Nigerians, this stage is crucial, as it helps ensure the credibility of the electoral process and protects the integrity of future elections.
The electoral body reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean and transparent voter register, stressing that accurate records are key to delivering free, fair, and credible elections.
INEC also assured the public that details for the third phase of the voter registration exercise will be announced in due course.
As preparations for 2027 gradually take shape, citizens are being reminded that participation does not end with registration but with ensuring their information is correct and their voice counts.
