Sustained military operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI have led to the voluntary surrender of 17 family members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) in separate incidents across Borno State.

The military said the surrender followed intensified offensives against terrorist enclaves in the North-East, which have continued to disrupt the activities and logistics of insurgent groups.

According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, 16 JAS family members, comprising 10 women and six children, surrendered to troops of the 222 Battalion during a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga Local Government Area at about 9:15 a.m. on August 4.

During preliminary debriefing, the group reportedly told troops that sustained military pressure on terrorist hideouts compelled them to surrender. Troops also recovered ₦92,000 from the group.

In a separate incident later the same day, an 11-year-old JAS family member voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion in Bama Local Government Area. The minor also cited the continued military offensive against terrorist elements as the reason for surrendering.

The military said all the surrendered individuals are in custody undergoing profiling and debriefing before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further assessment, rehabilitation where applicable, and other administrative processes.

Operation HADIN KAI described the latest development as another outcome of its ongoing campaign to dismantle terrorist enclaves, disrupt their supply routes and deny insurgents freedom of movement across the North-East.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations while encouraging more willing terrorist associates to surrender through established procedures.
