The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted over 1.6 tonnes of skunk in Ondo State and recovered more than 731 kilogrammes of the illicit drug from a warehouse in Oyo State.
This was disclosed in a statement by the NDLEA Spokesperson Femi Babafemi.
The statement stated that NDLEA officers on patrol along the Akure-Ilesha Expressway on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, intercepted a truck heading to the northern part of the country with 1,633 kilogrammes of skunk concealed in bags of rice shafts.
Two suspects, 40-year-old Buba Jamilu and 30-year-old Sanusi Ibrahim, who were allegedly transporting the consignment, were arrested.
In a separate operation on Monday, August 3, NDLEA operatives raided a drug warehouse in Elebure village, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, following credible intelligence.
The operation led to the recovery of 731.03 kilogrammes of skunk and the arrest of 57-year-old Felicia Thompson.
The agency said Thompson’s alleged partner, Thompson Vincent Nwaka, is currently at large.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives also recovered 147 kilogrammes of skunk from the Ita Ogbolu forest during a raid conducted on Monday, August 3.
The latest operations are part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to disrupt the cultivation, storage, transportation and distribution of illicit drugs across the country.
Commending the personnel for their commitment and operational successes, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa( Rtd), urge them to remain focused on both drug supply reduction and demand reduction efforts in the fight against illicit drugs.
