Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, disrupting a key supply route and intercepting suspected couriers transporting ammunition in Kogi State.
Over the past three months, the troops have intensified intelligence-led operations targeting terrorist logistics networks within their area of responsibility.
In one operation on March 29, 2026, along the Jamata–Owara Road in Lokoja Local Government Area, troops intercepted a suspect riding a motorcycle. A search revealed a cleverly modified compartment used to conceal ammunition. The suspect was later linked to known terrorist elements, prompting further operations.
Building on that success, troops arrested a high-profile ammunition courier identified as Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, who had been on a security watch list.
In a related development on April 20, 2026, troops acting on credible intelligence mounted a checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba Road where a commercial Toyota bus traveling from Makurdi was stopped, leading to the arrest of two suspects Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi.
A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and three AK-47 magazines, hidden behind the driver’s seat. Other items recovered include mobile phones and identification documents.
The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to military intelligence for further investigation.
The Nigerian Army says the operation highlights its commitment to cutting off terrorist supply lines and enhancing security across the region.
