The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has expanded its operational presence in Kwara State with the formal takeover of a newly established Area Command office in Idofian, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The new office, inaugurated on Saturday, August 15, 2026, is expected to bring the Agency’s drug control operations closer to communities in Idofian and neighbouring areas while strengthening efforts against illicit drug trafficking and abuse.
The ceremony, which began at 10:00 a.m., was led by the Kwara State Commander, Commander of Narcotics Fatima Abiola-Popoola, and attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, religious representatives, sister security agencies and other stakeholders.
Before the official ceremony, Abiola-Popoola was received at the Town Hall by members of the Oludofian-in-Council, who expressed their support for the establishment of the NDLEA office in the community.
The reception highlighted the growing partnership between the traditional institution, residents and the Agency in tackling drug-related challenges and promoting a safer community.
The formal handover later took place at the new NDLEA facility, with personnel and representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Federal Road Safety Corps in attendance.
Members of the Oludofian-in-Council, the Imam, representatives of the Christian community and other local stakeholders also participated in the event.
The Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Femi Yusuf, performed the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially marking the commencement of operations of the NDLEA Area Command Office in Idofian.
Speaking at the event, the Kwara State Commander commended the people of Ifelodun and other stakeholders for their commitment and support towards establishing the new office.
She stressed that the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking requires collective action, urging residents and community leaders to continue supporting the Agency by providing useful information and participating in drug prevention and awareness initiatives.
The establishment of the Idofian Area Command is expected to enhance the NDLEA’s capacity for drug enforcement, prevention, public sensitisation and community engagement across the area.
The event ended with group photographs involving traditional leaders, religious representatives, security agencies, government officials and other stakeholders who witnessed the milestone.
