Several locations in Ogun State known to residents as gathering points for illicit drug activities are coming under renewed pressure as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, intensifies its crackdown on drug black spots.
The latest raids are being carried out under Operation Restore Order, a nationwide campaign launched by the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), to identify and dismantle locations being used for drug trafficking and abuse.
In Abeokuta, NDLEA operatives have targeted black spots in Mayas, Maiami in Panseke, Onion Market in Eleweran, MKO Stadium Kuto Park and WAPCO in Lafenwa.
The Ogun State Command says the operation is not only about making arrests, but also about taking back public spaces that have become vulnerable to illicit drug activities and protecting communities from the consequences of drug abuse.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Haris A. Musa, said the agency remains determined to deny drug activities a foothold in the state.
According to Musa, the coordinated raids are aimed at “disrupting illicit drug activities, dismantling drug networks, and reclaiming public spaces being used for drug trafficking and abuse.”
He added that the Command would remain resolute in carrying out its statutory responsibility of protecting communities across Ogun State.
The latest operation is part of the NDLEA’s wider effort to make communities less attractive to drug traffickers and prevent vulnerable public spaces from becoming breeding grounds for drug abuse and related criminal activities.
