Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against illegal arms proliferation, dismantling a clandestine weapons manufacturing hub in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The raid, carried out in Gwandanu village on Wednesday evening, led to the arrest of two suspects who were caught in the act of producing sophisticated firearms. Security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles and one G3 rifle, along with equipment used in fabricating weapons, including generating sets, a welding machine, drilling tools and a technical toolbox.
In a related operation in Gidan Waya, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, troops responded swiftly to an attack on members of the Forest Guards and a local vigilante group. Working in collaboration with the guards, the troops pursued the attackers towards the Jaginde Forest axis.
On sighting the advancing troops, the suspects reportedly abandoned their motorcycle and fled into nearby bushes. One suspect was, however, apprehended, while a search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle, a motorcycle and other items.
All arrested suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigation, as authorities move to uncover possible links to wider criminal networks.
Meanwhile, troops have intensified clearance operations in the affected areas to track down fleeing suspects and recover more illegal weapons.
Operation Enduring Peace says it remains committed to restoring stability and has urged residents to continue providing timely information to support ongoing security efforts.
