A tragic incident has claimed the life of a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps in Abuja, following an armed robbery attack in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The victim, identified as Abdulsamad Jamiu, reportedly lost his life in the early hours of April 25 during a security operation by troops of the Guards Brigade.

Abuja Lieutenant Olawuyi Odunola ,the incident occurred at Shagari Estate, Dei-Dei, when troops on routine night patrol responded to a distress call over an ongoing robbery attack. On arrival, they came under gunfire from fleeing suspects, leading to a brief exchange.
During the crossfire, the corps member was hit and later died from his injuries despite efforts to save him.
The Guards Brigade has described the incident as deeply regrettable, extending condolences to the family of the deceased, the NYSC, and all affected by the loss.
The statement added that the situation at the time was volatile, as troops worked to repel the attackers and protect residents in the area.
However, a full investigation has now been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, with the Army assuring the public that findings will be made available as the remains of the deceased have been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.
The Guards Brigade has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory, while urging residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies.
