The way Nigerians buy fuel could be entering a new phase, as NNPC Retail Limited has commissioned its first technology-powered self-service smart station in Abuja.
Located along Bill Clinton Drive on Airport Road, the facility is designed to move beyond the conventional filling station model by combining automated fuel dispensing with electric vehicle charging, LPG services, car wash and other mobility and lifestyle offerings.
The 24-hour station allows customers to complete their fuel transactions independently and dispense the exact quantity of petrol required, offering a faster and more technology-driven experience.
Speaking at the commissioning, Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Limited, Dr. Mumuni Dagazau, said the facility reflects NNPC Retail’s focus on innovation, operational efficiency and improved customer experience.
Dagazau also commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for providing the land and supporting the partnership that enabled the project.
Managing Director of NNPC Retail, Huub Stokman, said the development reflects the changing expectations of consumers and the transformation taking place in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
He said the company was responding to growing demand for quality, convenience, speed and reliable service.
Beyond conventional fuel dispensing, the smart station features electric vehicle charging points, an automated car wash, lubricant service bay and LPG dispensing facilities.
NNPC Retail says it also plans to expand the station’s energy offerings to include Compressed Natural Gas, or CNG.
The development signals the company’s ambition to transform its network of filling stations into integrated energy, mobility and lifestyle destinations.
For motorists and other energy consumers, the Abuja facility could offer a glimpse into how technology and alternative energy solutions may reshape the experience of accessing fuel and related services in Nigeria.
