The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is strengthening its fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse in Delta State, as the newly deployed Sapele Area Commander, ACN Okewu Agbo John, seeks closer collaboration with the Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Police Force.

According to a statement by the NDLEA Delta State Command’s Media and Advocacy Officer, ASN I Johnkennedy Edoziem, the area commander made the move on October 21, 2026, during separate courtesy visits to the Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Logistics Command Headquarters, Oghara, Rear Admiral Alade, and the Sapele Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Victor Bassey.

During his meeting with the naval commander, discussions focused on intelligence sharing, joint operations and operational support to combat drug trafficking through waterways and coastal communities under the NDLEA Sapele Area Command.

Rear Admiral Alade welcomed the new area commander and commended the agency’s efforts against illicit drugs, assuring him of the Navy’s continued support through joint operations and information exchange to tackle drug-related crimes in the maritime domain.

At the Sapele Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Agbo John and ACP Bassey discussed strategies to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and associated criminal activities.

Both commanders emphasised the need for sustained intelligence sharing, joint raids on identified drug hotspots and collaborative War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaigns in schools, motor parks and vulnerable communities across Sapele and its environs.

Bassey reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to supporting the NDLEA, noting that drug abuse remains a major driver of criminality.

The NDLEA area commander thanked both security formations for their support and expressed optimism that stronger inter-agency cooperation would improve efforts to combat drug trafficking, reduce substance abuse and enhance security across Sapele and neighbouring communities.
