The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, says its security personnel successfully foiled an attempted robbery attack at the Ogbomosho Transmission Substation in Oyo State.
According to the TCN in a statement signed by the General Manager Public Affairs Ndidi Mbah, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 10th, when a group of armed men allegedly gained unauthorized access into the facility by scaling the perimeter fence near the entrance gate.
TCN says the intruders advanced towards the gatehouse in an attempt to overpower vigilante security operatives on duty, but the security team responded swiftly by firing warning shots, forcing the suspects to flee the premises.
The company adds that the attackers escaped through the same route they used to enter the substation, abandoning several tools and personal belongings during the operation.
A subsequent inspection of the area reportedly uncovered implements suspected to have been used for the attack, as well as traces of blood and footprints leading towards the escape route.
Security personnel also recovered a bag containing additional tools believed to belong to the fleeing suspects.
TCN says no staff or security personnel were injured during the incident, while investigations are now underway in collaboration with relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted electricity transmission across the country.
TCN also disclosed that a formal report of the incident has been scheduled for presentation to the Oba’s Palace as part of ongoing community engagement efforts.
