The Independent National Electoral Commission, Independent National Electoral Commission, says all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria have successfully submitted their membership registers ahead of the 2027 general election.
INEC disclosed this in a statement signed by the Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
The Commission explained that the submission followed an extension granted to political parties after concerns were raised over the initial deadline during a stakeholders’ meeting held in March this year.
According to INEC, the original deadline of April 21, 2026, was later shifted to May 10, 2026, to align with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the timetable for party primaries ahead of the 2027 polls.
The electoral body noted that all political parties met the requirement before the new deadline, with submissions completed as of May 8, two days earlier than expected.
INEC says the submitted membership registers will now undergo verification in line with electoral laws, as preparations continue for the 2027 general election.
The Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and inclusive elections across the country.
The development is seen as a major step in Nigeria’s electoral process, as party membership registers play a key role in validating party primaries and strengthening transparency ahead of the next general election.
