Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under the 2 Division, have rescued two kidnap victims following a swift response to an abduction incident in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The victims, identified as Mrs. Adekemi Idowu and her six-month-old child, were rescued after terrorists invaded a residence near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe on the night of June 3, 2026, and abducted five members of a family.
According to the Army, troops, working alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, immediately launched a pursuit operation along the kidnappers’ escape route after receiving a distress call.
The sustained pressure from the security team reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon the mother and child near the Oro axis before fleeing into nearby areas.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their family, while troops continue intensive search operations to rescue the remaining three victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a statement, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property and called on members of the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
The development offers renewed hope to residents of Kogi State and other communities affected by kidnapping, while highlighting the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups in combating insecurity and improving public safety.
