The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it is sustaining aerial surveillance operations in support of ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed this during a courtesy visit by representatives of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, led by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, in Ibadan.
According to the governor, the Air Force promptly deployed an aerial surveillance platform immediately after the abduction was reported, providing critical intelligence to support search-and-rescue operations on the ground.
He explained that intelligence gathered from the surveillance missions has continued to guide security agencies in tracking developments and coordinating efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims.
Governor Makinde appealed for calm and patience from residents, assuring that all necessary resources are being deployed to ensure the successful rescue of the abducted teachers and pupils. He also commended the Nigerian Air Force for its swift response and sustained support in the ongoing operation.
He noted that the Air Force made its surveillance platform available while Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.
The governor further explained that the state acquired the platforms after consultations with the Nigerian Air Force to ensure access to maintenance support, engineering expertise, and pilot training, adding that the assets are expected to strengthen future security operations once fully deployed.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted victims.
He also commended the Oyo State Government for its continued cooperation and support for Air Force projects and infrastructure development in the state.
The Nigerian Air Force says it remains committed to working with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property and to address ongoing security challenges across the country.
