Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an attempted terrorist infiltration at “Charlie 13” in Monguno, Borno State, following a fierce gun battle late Sunday night.
According to a statement signed by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the attackers were forced to retreat after an intense exchange of fire, with troops successfully holding their ground.
However, tragedy struck shortly after.
The Commanding Officer, who was en route to assess the situation firsthand, reportedly hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The blast claimed his life alongside six other soldiers.
The military described the fallen officer as a courageous leader who led from the front, highlighting his commitment to duty and the welfare of his troops even in the face of grave danger.
Operation HADIN KAI says it is in deep mourning, honoring the bravery and ultimate sacrifice of the seven personnel who died in service to the nation adding that their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
