Nigeria has taken a significant step to strengthen its national security, sealing a wide-ranging defence partnership with Türkiye at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026.
The agreement was reached during high-level talks led by Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa(Rtd), alongside top military and diplomatic officials.
The deal covers critical areas including advanced military training, technology transfer, intelligence sharing, and maritime security. Under the arrangement, Nigerian troops will undergo specialised training in Türkiye, focusing on counterterrorism, special operations, and modern warfare techniques.
Both countries also agreed to establish a military training facility in Nigeria, aimed at boosting local capacity and long-term defence preparedness.
In addition, Türkiye has pledged support with cutting-edge equipment, including surveillance systems, drones, and modern combat platforms to enhance Nigeria’s fight against emerging security threats.
With rising security challenges across the country, this partnership is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s ability to combat terrorism, secure its borders, and improve overall safety for citizens.
