The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has declared a force majeure on the Ikeja West–Osogbo 330 kilovolt transmission line following a severe rainstorm that struck on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
According to the company in a statement signed by the General Manager Public Affairs Ndidi Mbah, the high-voltage line tripped during the storm after a fault was detected about 14.9 kilometres from the Ikeja West end in Ayobo.
Further investigations by maintenance crews revealed that Tower 515 collapsed at its midsection under the impact of the storm.
TCN says engineers have since moved to the site and are currently dismantling the damaged structure, while materials and personnel are being mobilised for the reconstruction of the fallen tower.
Despite the setback, the company assures the public that power supply in the corridor has not been completely disrupted, as an alternative transmission line is still in operation to evacuate bulk electricity.
However, it added that efforts are ongoing to restore full flexibility and redundancy to the network, with updates to be provided as repair work continues.
