In a significant move aimed at strengthening electricity management and grid reliability across the country, the Nigerian Independent System Operator NISO , has flagged off the construction of a new National Control Room at the National Control Centre in Osogbo.
The project which has officially commenced, follows the handover of the site to Messrs FBS Construction Engineering Services Limited during a ceremony held on April 21, 2026.
Speaking at the event, NISO Managing Director, Abdu Bello Mohammed, urged the contractors to uphold high standards of professionalism, safety, and quality, while emphasizing the importance of collaboration to ensure timely delivery of the project.
Also speaking, Executive Director of System Operations, Nafisatu Asabe Ali, described the National Control Centre as a critical national asset, essential for both security and economic growth.
She noted that the new facility will significantly enhance grid stability and operational efficiency nationwide.
In his remarks, Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Babajide Ibironke, called on the contractors to approach the project with a strong sense of national responsibility, stressing its importance in improving electricity supply across Nigeria.
The project is expected to play a vital role in Nigeria’s power sector, providing a more advanced and reliable system for monitoring and managing electricity distribution, ultimately supporting economic development and improving service delivery to consumers
