Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has reaffirmed the country’s strong commitment to regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism and cross-border crime.
General Musa gave this assurance during a high-level meeting of Defence Ministers from Troop Contributing Countries under the Multinational Joint Task Force, held in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad.
The meeting, convened under the Lake Chad Basin Commission, brought together defence chiefs and top security officials from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin.
It focused on strengthening joint military operations and reviewing progress in tackling insurgency and other security threats in the Lake Chad region.
Speaking at the gathering, the Defence Minister stressed that sustained collaboration among member states remains critical to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring stability across the region.
General Musa also commended the government and people of Chad for hosting the meeting and acknowledged their leadership role in regional security efforts.
The ministers, in turn, expressed appreciation to Chad’s leadership for its continued support toward achieving peace in the Lake Chad Basin.
The meeting is part of ongoing regional efforts to strengthen cooperation and ensure lasting security across member states.
Deliberations at the meeting also centred on operational updates presented by Chiefs of Defence Staff and heads of intelligence agencies. Key issues discussed included troop deployment, funding challenges, and the changing nature of security threats.
Participants used the platform to exchange ideas and strategies aimed at improving the effectiveness of the Multinational Joint Task Force.
