Nigeria and the United States have strengthened their security partnership with the inauguration of Defence Institutional Technical Working Groups in Abuja.
The initiative, launched under the 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap, is designed to enhance joint efforts in tackling terrorism, insecurity, and regional instability.
Speaking at the ceremony, head of the U.S. delegation, Mr. Cate Dave, said the working groups will boost strategic planning and strengthen defence institutions.
He emphasised that building strong institutions is crucial to denying terrorists safe havens and improving counterterrorism operations.
Leading the Nigerian delegation, Air Vice Marshal Francis Edosa described the collaboration as timely, given the evolving nature of security threats.
He said the partnership will focus on enhancing the warfighting capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and improving rapid response to crises.
Both sides stressed the need for practical outcomes, accountability, and sustained cooperation to achieve lasting security gains.
The move signals a renewed commitment by both countries to work together in promoting peace, stability, and effective security management across the region.
