The Defence Headquarters has inaugurated a General Court Martial to try 36 serving military personnel accused of breaching national security through alleged mutiny.
The inauguration, which took place today, April 24, 2026, follows an earlier statement by the Defence Headquarters in January addressing the matter.
According to a statement signed by the Director , Defence Information Major General Samaila Uba , the accused personnel are being investigated for actions aimed at undermining the government, a development the Armed Forces say will be handled with utmost seriousness.
The Defence Headquarters describes the move as a strong step toward reinforcing discipline, accountability, and the military’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and constitutional order.
It assured that the court martial proceedings will be conducted with fairness, impartiality, and strict adherence to due process, in line with established military legal frameworks.
Consequently, the defence headquarters also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and the rule of law, while guaranteeing that the rights of all personnel involved will be respected.
