The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a planned power outage that will affect Bauchi, Gombe, Yola and surrounding communities as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes a major upgrade of the national transmission network.
The scheduled outage will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, and end at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, to allow TCN connect an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line.
According to NISO, the maintenance work will also require the temporary shutdown of the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV transmission line to ensure a safe working environment for engineers carrying out the installation.As a result, electricity supply will be interrupted across Bauchi, Gombe, Yola and neighbouring areas for the duration of the exercise.
NISO explained that the installation of the Optical Ground Wire is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure by improving grid reliability, monitoring and communication systems. The upgrade is expected to support more efficient grid operations and enhance the stability of electricity supply in the long term.
The system operator appealed to electricity consumers and market participants in the affected areas for understanding and cooperation, while expressing regret over the temporary inconvenience caused by the planned outage.
