Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully foiled a terrorist attack in Kukareta, inflicting heavy losses on the insurgents.
The operation, carried out by the Joint Task Force under Sector 2, took place in the early hours of today, as terrorists launched an assault shortly after midnight.
However, troops responded swiftly and decisively, engaging the attackers in a coordinated counter-operation that forced them to retreat in disarray.
According to statement by the Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba , at least 24 terrorists have been neutralised so far, while troops continue to comb the area for more fleeing fighters.
The statement added that a large cache of weapons was also recovered, including multiple AK-47 rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, mortar tubes, and several rounds of ammunition and two soldiers were wounded during the encounter but have since been stabilised.
The military authorities stated that an armoured vehicle deployed as reinforcement was also damaged, though no casualties were recorded from the incident.
Further operations are ongoing to track down fleeing terrorists, with reports indicating trails of blood and abandoned medical supplies along their escape routes.
The military high command has equally praised the troops for their bravery and professionalism, urging them to sustain the momentum as operations continue to dismantle terrorist networks in the North-East.
