The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, has empowered over 2,000 households in Kano State with clean energy solutions aimed at improving living standards and promoting environmental sustainability.
The intervention, launched under NASENI’s Sustainable Empowerment Programme at Fabs Event Centre, Kano, saw beneficiaries receive clean cookstoves, solar home systems, and other locally developed technologies designed to provide reliable and affordable energy.
The initiative, is part of efforts to reduce dependence on traditional fuels, cut carbon emissions, and support cleaner energy use in rural and semi-urban communities.
Flagging off the programme, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, described the initiative as a clear example of government policy translating into real benefits for citizens.
She said it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in the areas of industrialisation, job creation, and inclusive economic growth.
The Minister also noted that Kano’s selection as the host state reflects its long-standing history as a major commercial and industrial hub in West Africa.
She commended NASENI for advancing indigenous innovation and supporting Nigeria’s economic competitiveness under the African Continental Free Trade Area framework.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the programme is part of the agency’s broader Zero Carbon initiative, which focuses on reducing emissions and promoting safer, cleaner energy solutions.
He explained that the distributed technologies are locally made and designed to meet the specific needs of Nigerian households, adding that the programme is aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.
NASENI urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the equipment to improve their homes, support small businesses, and enhance productivity.
The agency says the initiative forms part of its long-term commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, and economic empowerment across Nigeria.
