The Nigerian Navy has handed over one hundred and six parcels of suspected Cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, following their recovery during an operation in the Badagry–Porto-Novo creeks of Lagos State.
The consignment was intercepted on Monday, September seventh, by personnel of the Naval Outpost Tongeji, acting on credible intelligence about suspected drug trafficking activities along the maritime corridor.
The naval team subsequently conducted a targeted operation in the creeks and recovered the suspected illicit drugs.
The suspected traffickers, however, fled after sighting the naval patrol team, preventing the personnel from making any arrests.
The recovered items were subsequently handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action.
The Commanding Officer of Forward Operating Base Badagry, Navy Captain Said Muhammed Kabir, represented by the Base Operations Officer, Lieutenant Commander Ehis Osabo Nathaniel, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the operation.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the nation’s maritime environment.
The Commanding Officer also emphasised the need for sustained operations and stronger inter-agency cooperation to tackle criminal activities along the waterways.
FOB Badagry urged members of the public to provide security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
The Base says it will continue to collaborate with the NDLEA and other relevant security agencies to strengthen security and curb criminal activities along the Badagry maritime corridor.
