Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have disrupted suspected cross-border drug trafficking routes in Oyo and Lagos States, intercepting 305.6 kilograms of cannabis and 1,688.4 kilograms of nitrous oxide, popularly known as laughing gas.
In Oyo State, two Togolese nationals, 35-year-old Yinusa Abdulsamad and 33-year-old Fatai Baba, were arrested on Saturday, September 26, along the Iganna-Ilero Road in Iganna.
The suspects were allegedly moving 305.6 kilograms of skunk, concealed in two pickup vans, as part of a cross-border trafficking operation.
According to the agency in a statement by the Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters Femi Babafemi, the cannabis was sourced from Ghana and smuggled into Nigeria through the Oyo axis.
In a separate operation at the Seme border in Badagry, Lagos State, NDLEA officers arrested five suspects and recovered 420 cartons of nitrous oxide, weighing 1,688.4 kilograms.
The substance was allegedly being transported from the border into Lagos in two vehicles used to convey the consignment.
The suspects are 40-year-old Kingsley John, 44-year-old John Chibuike Okeke, 40-year-old Lamidi Ismaila, 42-year-old Babatunde Samuel and 47-year-old Afeesu Idowu.
The two operations underscore the agency’s continued efforts to disrupt the movement of illicit drugs and psychoactive substances through Nigeria’s land borders and major trafficking corridors.
