The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against drug trafficking and related crimes across several states of the country.
In a statement signed by the Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters Femi Babafemi , in Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside a third suspect, 38-year-old Salomi Ezekiel, after officers uncovered 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing a total of 1,246 kilograms.
The illicit drugs were recovered from their residence in the Gonin Gora area of the state during an operation carried out on May 24.
On the same day, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway near Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, who was allegedly transporting 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62 millimetre ammunition to Katsina State. The suspect and the ammunition have since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and prosecution.
In neighbouring Niger State, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, where they recovered 457 kilograms of skunk. A suspect, 46-year-old Godwin Zakka, was subsequently arrested at his residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna in connection with the seizure.
Meanwhile, in Enugu State, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle travelling to Taraba State. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 22,000 pills of tramadol, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 grams of bromazepam. One suspect, James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested.
These seizures underscore the growing efforts by security agencies to disrupt the illegal drug trade and prevent dangerous substances from reaching communities. Experts warn that drug abuse remains a major driver of crime, insecurity, addiction, and public health challenges, making sustained enforcement and public vigilance critical in protecting lives and communities.
For members of the public, the operations serve as a reminder of the important role citizens can play by providing timely information to law enforcement agencies and supporting efforts aimed at keeping illicit drugs and other dangerous items off the streets.
