A new chapter in the fight against drug abuse is taking shape in Yobe State, as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has pledged to work closely with the newly established Yobe State Agency for Drug Abuse Control and Rehabilitation, YOSADAC.
The commitment followed a courtesy visit by the Acting Director of YOSADAC, Alhaji Baba Shehu, and his team to the NDLEA State Command Headquarters in Damaturu on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Received by the NDLEA State Commander, CN Mannir Mustapha, the visit provided an opportunity for both agencies to outline their mandates and explore areas of cooperation.
Alhaji Baba Shehu said the visit was aimed at formally introducing himself and presenting the mandate of YOSADAC, established by the Yobe State Government under Governor Mai Mala Buni to address drug abuse and related challenges in the state.
He acknowledged the leading role of the NDLEA in drug control, particularly its responsibility for investigating, arresting and prosecuting individuals involved in drug trafficking, production and dealing.
The Acting Director stressed that YOSADAC was not created to compete with or undermine the NDLEA, but to complement its efforts through stronger cooperation, intelligence sharing and community-based information gathering.
He appealed to the NDLEA to continue supporting the agency whenever necessary, particularly in areas requiring operational assistance and professional expertise.
In response, CN Mannir Mustapha congratulated Baba Shehu on his appointment and assured YOSADAC of the Command’s full cooperation.
The NDLEA Commander said stronger collaboration between both agencies, alongside other relevant stakeholders, would enhance efforts to prevent drug abuse and tackle its associated challenges.
He added that sustained intelligence sharing and collective action would be critical to building a safer and healthier Yobe State free from the menace of drug abuse.
