The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, has stepped up its enforcement of environmental laws in Nasarawa State, sealing four facilities over alleged violations of environmental standards.

The enforcement exercise, carried out on Thursday, targeted facilities whose operations were found to be falling short of prescribed environmental requirements, raising concerns about the potential impact on public health and the surrounding environment.

The affected facilities are ABZAT Quarry, Hoafong Mining Trading Company Limited, Emono Venture and Mivanyi Integrated Farms.

The operation was led by the Head of Operations at NESREA’s Karu Operational Office, Mr. Da’am Monday.

According to a statement by the Assistant Director, Press, NESREA Mrs Nwamaka Ejiofor, the facilities were sealed for offences ranging from air pollution to failure to provide required environmental management documents.

The agency says the action is part of its mandate to prevent activities that threaten environmental sustainability and expose communities to environmental hazards.

The agency added that it will continue to enforce environmental regulations to protect public health, safeguard natural resources and promote sustainable development.

NESREA is therefore urging businesses and facility operators across the country to comply with environmental laws, adopt environmentally responsible practices and deploy the best available technologies to reduce the impact of their operations.

NESREA equally reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing environmental standards nationwide, stressing that strict compliance is crucial to protecting ecosystems, safeguarding public health and advancing sustainable development.

The latest crackdown signals that environmental compliance is not merely a regulatory requirement but an important part of protecting the health and wellbeing of communities across Nigeria.
