The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on militants and kidnappers in Cross River State, recording fresh gains in ongoing operations across the Calabar waterways.
This follows a recent offensive by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship Victory and the Forward Operating Base in Ibaka, which led to the destruction of a major militant hideout at Dayspring Island, the establishment of a new security outpost, and the arrest of a suspected collaborator.
In follow-up clearance operations, naval troops uncovered ten outboard boat engines hidden in nearby bushes and within a structure close to the destroyed residence of a suspected militant known as “Juju.” The items were immediately seized.
Acting on fresh intelligence, troops also moved into a creek near Akpamfi, where militants had stored additional equipment. On sighting the advancing naval team, the suspects fled, abandoning two fibre boats and a 200-horsepower outboard engine. The equipment was recovered and moved to a naval security post.
The Navy says the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the logistics network of militant groups, noting that boats and engines are key tools used to carry out attacks and evade security forces along the waterways.
According to the Navy, the sustained offensive has significantly weakened militant activities in the area, limiting their movement and access to safe havens.
Th Navy also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the operations until all criminal elements are eliminated and the waterways are safe for lawful activities.
The Navy is also urging residents to provide credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
