With the Osun governorship election just days away, more than 1.9 million registered voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards, putting them in position to participate in Saturday’s keenly watched poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission says 1,906,390 PVCs, representing 81.50 per cent of the state’s 2,339,233 registered voters, have been collected ahead of the August 15 election.
INEC disclosed this in its final PVC collection figures released as preparations intensify for the governorship poll.
The Commission in a statement by the National Commissioner, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee
Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent of the total, remain uncollected and have been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria in line with established procedures.
It also disclosed that 6,101 voters who applied to replace damaged, defaced or lost PVCs printed downloadable copies of their cards.
INEC said a detailed breakdown of PVCs collected at every polling unit has been published on its website.
As Osun prepares to elect its next governor, the Commission assured political parties, civil society organisations, the media and residents that it is fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election on Saturday.
