Residents and businesses in parts of Abuja may experience disruptions in electricity supply following a technical fault at the Apo Transmission Substation, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced.
According to TCN in a statement signed by the General Manager Public Affairs , Ndidi Mbah , one of the 100MVA 132/33kV power transformers at the Apo Substation tripped off at about 12:56 a.m. on Thursday, 22 May 2026, after a differential relay indication was detected while the transformer was on no load.
The incident initially raised concerns after oil spillage was discovered around the transformer during routine inspection. However, further investigation by TCN engineers revealed faults affecting the red and yellow phase 33kV bushings of the transformer.
TCN disclosed that engineers have successfully restored the red phase bushing, while intensive repair work continues on the yellow phase to fully return the transformer to service.
In the meantime, the company has directed the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to temporarily reroute electricity supply for customers connected to the affected 33kV feeders through alternative transmission feeders within its network coverage area.
The development is aimed at minimising the impact of the outage on affected customers pending the completion of repairs.
TCN assured residents that its maintenance crew is working round the clock to restore normal operations as quickly as possible and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the incident.
