The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two men after intercepting two shipments of synthetic cannabis, popularly known as Colorado or “Colos,” concealed in consolidated cargoes from the United Kingdom at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
According to a statement by the NDLEA Spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday , the first interception took place at the airport’s import shed, where NDLEA operatives discovered 27 parcels of Colorado weighing 32.20 kilogrammes hidden inside a UK-bound consignment.
A real estate agent, Abideen Jide Salami, was arrested on Wednesday, September 9, after he arrived to collect the large luggage containing the illicit substance. According to the agency, Salami showed up with a secret collection code allegedly relayed to him by his brother based in the United Kingdom.
In a follow-up operation arising from another UK consignment, NDLEA operatives traced and arrested 44-year-old Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, the designated recipient of a second shipment containing 12.25 kilogrammes of Colorado.
Kadiri reportedly told investigators that the consignment was sent to him by his brother in the United Kingdom.
The two interceptions bring the total quantity of synthetic cannabis recovered from the separate shipments to 44.45 kilogrammes, with investigations into the consignments ongoing.
