After weeks in captivity, Mrs Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, has been rescued by troops of the Nigerian Army with support from the Nigerian Air Force.
The rescue followed an intensified manhunt by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA, who had been tracking the bandits responsible for her abduction. The operation reached a breakthrough at Tunga Village, where troops engaged the criminals and successfully secured Mrs Abubakar’s freedom.
Announcing the development in a statement on Monday , the Director Defence Information Major General Samaila Uba said the fleeing bandits shot Mrs Abubakar during the encounter before abandoning her under pressure from advancing troops.
She was immediately evacuated to a military hospital and is currently receiving treatment. According to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, she is responding well to medical care.
Mrs Abubakar was abducted alongside her husband, the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, whose death sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for stronger action against banditry and terrorism in the country.
The military said it remains committed to ensuring Mrs Abubakar’s full recovery and is providing support to her family during the difficult period.
Meanwhile, troops have intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators and dismantle criminal networks operating in Katsina State and other parts of the country.
The statement further stated that ongoing operations would continue until those responsible are brought to justice and affected communities are rid of terrorist and bandit activities.
