Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a Nigerian soldier who was declared wanted by the Nigerian Army over his alleged involvement in supplying military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal elements.
The suspect, Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, Lagos, was apprehended by troops of the 7 Provost Group at about 6:30 p.m. on July 25, 2026, at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the soldier had been declared wanted on July 23, 2026, following allegations of illegally supplying military equipment to terrorist groups.The military said Yusuf was arrested while allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Cameroon after troops acted on credible human intelligence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026, before relocating to Maiduguri, where he reportedly went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate.
Operation HADIN KAI said the arrest underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring that personnel whose actions undermine military ethics, discipline and national security are held accountable.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his alleged activities and identify other individuals who may have been involved.
The military reiterated that there would be no safe haven for individuals who support terrorism or any form of criminality, irrespective of their status, stressing its resolve to uphold professionalism, accountability and the highest standards of integrity in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
Captain Goni also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that public cooperation remains critical to restoring lasting peace and security across the North-East.
