The Zamfara State Government has pledged to establish a temporary drug rehabilitation centre and provide logistical support to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Nakwada, gave the assurance on Monday, October 12, when the NDLEA State Commander, Commander of Narcotics Mohammed Kabiru, paid him a courtesy visit in Gusau.
Nakwada also commended the agency for its operations against drug joints across the state, describing drug abuse and trafficking as serious threats to Zamfara’s security.
He assured the commander that the state government would urgently commence the construction of a temporary rehabilitation centre on a parcel of land within the NDLEA state headquarters.
During the meeting, Kabiru identified logistical support for sustained operations against drug joints, a rehabilitation centre and a female detention facility as key areas requiring government intervention.
The SSG reaffirmed the government’s readiness to partner with the agency, stressing that efforts to combat crime must go hand in hand with measures to address drug abuse.
He said tackling substance abuse was essential to improving security and protecting communities across the state.
In his response, Kabiru expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment and pledged to sustain the command’s operations against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse.
He also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders to improve public safety and address the drug problem in Zamfara State.
