The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully carried out critical maintenance on the Zaria–Funtua 132-kilovolt transmission line without disrupting bulk electricity transmission, keeping power flowing throughout the operation.

The maintenance, carried out by TCN’s Kaduna Regional Live-Line Maintenance Crew between July 4 and July 7, involved replacing damaged glass disc insulators on eight transmission towers while the line remained energized, eliminating the need for a planned power outage.

According to TCN in a statement signed by the General Public Affairs Ndidi Mbah, the affected towers—T14, T17, T40, T63, T78, T175, T177 and T178—each had at least five damaged insulators, which were replaced with a combination of polymer and glass disc insulators to improve the reliability of the transmission line.

The company says the successful completion of the exercise demonstrates the effectiveness of modern live-line maintenance techniques, which allow essential repairs to be carried out without interrupting electricity supply.

TCN adds that the initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening the reliability, safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s electricity transmission network.
