The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has pledged full support for the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the country.
The students’ body made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Chairman/CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Led by its National President, Comrade Sola Oladoja, the group also reaffirmed its backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including support for his re-election in twenty twenty-seven.
The NANS leadership commended the NDLEA for its sustained crackdown on drug cartels and praised its War Against Drug Abuse campaign, which they say has helped raise awareness among students nationwide.
They noted that their support for the current administration is driven by what they described as pro-youth initiatives, including student loan schemes, improved stability in tertiary institutions, and youth empowerment programmes.
In his response, NDLEA Chairman, Marwa, welcomed the support, stressing the importance of collaboration in tackling drug abuse on campuses.
He warned that substance abuse poses serious risks to students’ health, future ambitions, and the wider society.
Marwa also explained the Federal Government’s new drug integrity test policy for students, describing it as a preventive measure aimed at early detection and treatment, rather than punishment.
The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to strengthen cooperation in the campaign against drug abuse in Nigerian schools.
