The Defence Headquarters has dismissed as fake a video currently circulating on social media, which falsely claims to feature the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
In some versions, the individual shown is also wrongly identified as the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
In a statement issued today, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, described the video as fabricated, misleading, and completely unrelated to any official communication or activity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
According to the Defence Headquarters, preliminary assessments indicate that the video bears clear signs of digital manipulation using Artificial Intelligence technology and should not be regarded as authentic under any circumstance.
The military warned that the deliberate spread of such false content is capable of misleading the public, creating confusion, and undermining confidence in the nation’s security institutions.
The Defence Headquarters also expressed concern over the growing misuse of digital platforms to create and circulate fake content involving senior military officers.
It cautioned social media influencers, bloggers, content creators, and online commentators against sharing or amplifying unverified military-related information in pursuit of online engagement.
Members of the public and media practitioners have been urged to verify military-related information through official Defence Headquarters communication channels before publication or dissemination.
The defence headquarters equally reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to protecting the country’s sovereignty, peace, and security, assuring citizens that they remain focused on their constitutional responsibilities.
