Security forces have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against criminal networks in the South-East, uncovering a large cache of weapons allegedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, in Enugu State.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Operation UDO KA, working in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS.According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division Nigerian Army Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni , the raid followed credible intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects.
Acting on the information, security operatives conducted a targeted operation in the Gariki area of Enugu South Local Government Area, where they discovered a concealed arms depot hidden inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.
A search of the facility led to the recovery of a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition, including machine guns, AK-47 rifles, an RPG-7 launcher tube, hand grenades, tear gas equipment, magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
The statement added that all recovered items, along with arrested suspects, have been handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution.
