The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency have stepped up efforts to improve safety and standards in Nigeria’s power sector.
This follows a high-level meeting in Abuja between NEMSA’s Managing Director and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Olusegun M. Adesayo, and the Chairman of NERC, Musiliu Olalekan Oseni.
According to a statement by the Head, Public Affairs NEMSA , Ama Umoren the two agencies agreed to deepen collaboration in key areas including electrical safety enforcement, technical inspections, certification of installations, and compliance monitoring across the electricity value chain.
Speaking during the visit, Engr. Adesayo said stronger cooperation is critical to tackling ongoing challenges such as electrical accidents, substandard installations, and equipment failures.
He added that better coordination, including joint inspections and data sharing, will help improve enforcement and ensure safer electricity supply nationwide.
In response, NERC Chairman Musiliu
Oseni welcomed the move, noting that ongoing reforms in the power sector make closer collaboration between regulators more important than ever.
Both agencies also raised concerns over the increasing use of substandard electrical materials, warning that stricter enforcement is necessary to protect lives and infrastructure.
They have now agreed to work together more closely through joint operations and regular engagements aimed at improving overall sector performance.
The renewed partnership is expected to enhance safety, boost compliance, and support the development of a more reliable electricity system in Nigeria.
