The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has deepened its partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State as part of efforts to combat the rising cases of transmission tower vandalism and Right-of-Way (RoW) encroachment threatening electricity supply.
The renewed collaboration was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Katsina Sub-Region, Engr. Usman S. Idris, to the NSCDC Katsina State Command on July 6, 2026.
During the meeting, Engr. Idris commended the NSCDC for its swift response to previous security incidents involving TCN facilities and highlighted recent attacks on critical transmission infrastructure.
He disclosed that vandals recently targeted Towers T-219 and T-228 along the Katsina–Daura 132kV transmission line. The damage was discovered during a routine patrol and has heightened concerns over the growing threat to the national grid.
According to him, attacks on transmission facilities not only destroy critical infrastructure but also undermine the reliability of electricity supply to homes, businesses and industries.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and TCN to protect strategic national assets from sabotage.
Responding, the Katsina State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Dan-Ile Moriki, said investigations into the reported vandalism had already commenced.
He assured TCN of the Corps’ continued support, pledging closer coordination, intelligence sharing and proactive measures to curb vandalism and prevent encroachment on transmission Right-of-Way corridors.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration through improved information sharing and coordinated operations aimed at safeguarding Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure.
