Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued six women and children abducted during a terrorist attack in Ngoshe community, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, in what military authorities describe as another major operational breakthrough in Nigeria’s North East.
The rescue followed sustained military offensives, including targeted air strikes on terrorist hideouts in the Mandara Mountains.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops intercepted the victims in the early hours of May 1st, 2026, around Amuda a known transit route for insurgents between Ngoshe and Gava.
The rescued victims include three women and three children, who had been held captive since the March 3rd attack on Ngoshe. According to preliminary accounts, they managed to escape from a terrorist enclave in Gava before being picked up by advancing troops.
During the operation, troops came under sporadic gunfire from fleeing terrorists attempting to recapture the escapees. The troops responded swiftly, engaging the insurgents and forcing them to retreat deeper into the rugged mountain terrain.
The Military says the success is linked to intensified pressure on terrorist groups, which has weakened their structure and created confusion within their ranks. Intelligence reports indicate rising desperation among the insurgents, with increasing cases of escape by captives.
Following their rescue, the victims received immediate medical attention before being reunited with their families later that day in an emotional gathering facilitated by the Wali of Ngoshe.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining operations aimed at rescuing abducted persons and eliminating terrorist threats across the region. They also urged members of the public to continue supporting security efforts with timely and credible information.
The Military High Command has also commended the troops for their courage and professionalism, calling for continued aggressive operations to secure lasting peace in the North East.
